E-mail Print PDF

walkathonThis year’s fund-raising Walkathon has a new destination, the Ricardo O’Gorman Garden and Center for Resources in the Humanities at 23 W. 129th Street. Our host will be the well-known poet and educator Ned O’Gorman, who has lived in Harlem since 1966. The Center is named for his late son Ricardo O’Gorman.

The Walkathon will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, at St. Edward the Martyr Church at 14 East 109th Street as customary. Choir members, volunteers, parents and friends will join us as we walk through Harlem taking note of historic landmarks such as the Apollo Theater and the Hotel Theresa and learn about such figures as Marcus Garvey, Langston Hughes and Duke Ellington.

Ned O’Gorman, a long-time supporter of the Choir, will host a reception at the resource center to conclude our march.

Choir members will start signing up participants at 8:30am. To volunteer at a checkpoint or to assist at the reception, please contact Mr. Backmon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
