In the spring of 2008 the NABGC hosted the Voices of Victory Choir from Ontario, Canada. This was the second trip led by conductor Erwin Stroobach. Several years early Mr. Stroobach had brought a boys choir from Canada and it was hosted by the NABC.
On Saturday the NABGC joined forces with the Voices of Victory, The Kawartha Treble Troupe and the Peterborough Children’s Chorus. This was the tenth anniversary choral festival concert presented by the Peterborough Children’s Chorus; the all day workshop was led by Kathy Armstrong and the Baobab Youth Performers. The workshop focused on Ghanaian music and dance. In the evening after a picnic dinner where all 100 plus choristers got a chance to mingle the groups assembled for the concert. At the concert each group gat a chance to show case two to three selections. Each choir received generous applause form the very supportive audience The last part of the program, the combined choirs performed the Ghanaian music and dance under the leadership of Ms. Armstrong and the Baobab Youth Performers. The evening was a great success
The next morning the NABGC gathered at the Cambridge Street United church in Lindsay. In the morning service the NABGC joined with the Voices of Victory and sang songs from the Saturday evening concert and other selections. After the service the two choirs enjoyed a barbecue that was prepared by the members of the church. After lunch it was time to say good bye to the host families. The choir boarded the bus and headed to Canada Wonder land where the choir members got to stayed until closing time. After spending a night at a local hotel the choir boarded the bus and head to Niagara Falls. The choir took the ride on the Maid of the Mist. After the very exciting ride on the boat the choir spent time at the local gift shop and then board the bus and enjoyed the scenic ride back to NYC.
Many thanks to Erwin & Angelique Stroobach, Voices of Victory, host families and all the other volunteers for helping to make the week end a memorable experience for the NAGC members.
